Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1993 Honda Civic Sedan

Question:

I am confused. Is it the 510-15 or the 116-1 that fits my sedan. Before purchasing I would like to see the instructions so I can determined whether to use Roadmaster or blue ox. I wish to see what is the easiest to install.

For a 1993 Honda Civic, if it is a sedan CX, LX, or EX then you would use base plates # 510-15. The 116-1 base plates fit a Pontiac Sunbird but not a Civic. I can email the instructions. But what you should know is that these base plates are fixed meaning they will always be visible at the front of the vehicle. For base plates that have removable arms making them nearly invisible once installed go with # 510-1. They will install the same way.

Blue Ox seems to only have an options for DX, SI, S and hatchback models, # BX2213.

In addition to the base plates you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and a supplemental braking system.

For a compatible Roadmaster tow bar the Falcon 2, # RM-520 is the most popular for Honda Civics. Another popular option is the Tracker, # RM-020. For either tow bar you will need some safety cables like # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting I recommend a simple magnetic kit like # RM-2120. This kit plugs into a 4-Way and will not require cutting into the vehicle wiring at all.

And finally, most states now require a supplemental braking system in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake # RM-9400 proportional system. This system applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included some helpful links on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for the proper procedure for flat towing it.
