Replacement Axle for 67 Inch Wide Trailer

Question:

my trailer has a total width of 67inch the spring centers are 64, what overall axle size do I need to make sure the tires dont hit the box, it has standard 15inch trailer tires on standard white spoke steel wheels, but I bought it with mismatched axles someone scavenged somewhere and welded the spring brackets, I want to replace both with matching 2000 pound capacity axles or above that match hubs and bearings and free of welds. basically a 70 inch wide box measured at the top rails, where springs are fastened its 64inch on center, no fenders, but would like to add in the future, no brakes either, simple axles the correct length with hubs, please help, I dont wnt to order the wrong axles

Although your current axles may be scavenged and do not match, I would recommend measuring them assuming your current wheels and tires are riding where you want them to. This would be a good point of reference for an axle length. For this you will need the hub face to hub face measurement, which is the same as the axle length.

The hub face would also be the center of your wheels and tires assuming 0 offset. If we assume your 15" tires have roughly an 8" section width, they will be 4" closer to the frame on each side than the hub face. So if your frame is 67" and you want 3" between the tire and the frame, you would be looking at something like at least 81" to have enough clearance. That is assuming nothing else on the trailer is in the way that would interfere with your wheels and tires.

The other thing to consider is axle capacity. You want to pick axles that are the correct capacity for your trailer. If you already know this, and the capacity is 2,000 lbs, then I recommend sticking with a 2,000 lb axle.

We do not have 2,000 lb axles that are long enough to work with your trailer but I do have a solution. I recommend using the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Straight Spindle - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # ASR2KHDS01. This system is universal so it will fit any frame width. You would need to choose hubs that fit based on the bolt pattern of your current wheels unless you also want to replace the wheels.

I have attached a link to all of the Timbren Axle-Less systems that you can check out.
