I can tell you an easy way to figure out which line is the return line and which is the feed line on the transmission cooler of your 2006 Chevy Equinox.
When your car is cold go out and start it up and put it in drive for 10 seconds. Now put it back in park and shut it off. Go out and feel both coolant lines, the cooler of the two is the return line. The installers use this trick here all the time.
I attached a couple FAQ articles on transmission coolers for you to check out also.
