Recommended Bearing Buddies to Replace Old 1.981 Inch Bearing Buddies

Question:

I’m replacing the old off brand buddy bearings on my boat trailer. Ever since I repacked the bearings a month ago the buddies keep coming out about 1/4” and I have to tap them back in. When I did the bearings they did not come off easily. One was really tight and now I have to keep an eye on them. I just tried to measure the ID of the hub but the caliper will only touch the edge 1.97” unless I pull the hub. The old buddies are 1.981”. Dust cap that came with the hubs 1.99”. The OD of the seal is 1.98”. Seal# 125255uc. Race number L44610. Both inner and outer bearings are number L 44649. Can you recommend what size stainless steel Buddy Bearings I need?

Expert Reply:

In order to find the correct Bearing Buddies you will want to get the most accurate hub bore measurement you can get. If you can't get the measurement without pulling the hub you will need to pull the hub to make sure.

From the measurements and part numbers you provided, along with the old ones you have, it sounds like you need the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 1980T-SS - Threaded - Stainless Steel (Pair) # BB1980T-SS. This matches your current bearings and fits a 1.98" hub bore. If you would like the auto check which allows you to monitor grease levels, we have the # BB1980A-SS as well.

I have attached an installation video for your reference.
