Should Equal-i-zer 1,000 lb System be Upgraded For 1,200 lb Tongue Weight
Question:
I currently own the 1000 equalizer hitch setup for my previous travel trailer. It is only a couple years old and has served me well. I am about to upgrade to a longer, heavier travel trailer that has a GVWR of 9500 pounds and a listed tongue weight of 896. Im guessing that with the camper fully loaded I will be closer to 1100 or even 1200 on the tongue. Will I be safe to keep my current setup or will be in need of upgrading the size to a higher capacity? Any recommendations?

Since you are upgrading to a tongue weight of what could be 1,200 lbs, you will definitely need to upgrade from the 1,000 lb Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET. The reason being that with a set up rated lower than your tongue weight, you'll have a system that is ineffective and won't give you the leveling or sway control needed for a higher rating.
The good news is, you don't have to get a completely new system, you can upgrade by getting new bars and a new head unit. The reason you need a new head unit is the bars on the 1,400 lb system are slightly larger and won't fit inside the 1,000 lb head unit. So what you will need are the following:
- Replacement Spring Bars for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 1,400 lbs TW # EQ90-01-1499
- Replacement Head for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 1,400 lbs TW # EQ90-02-1400
