What Tire Chains do You Recommend for 2021 Toyota Tacoma for Deep Snow and Forest Roads?

Question:

[1] OEM manual states to use only on rear tires. Wonder if some use on all 4 as this is 4WD? [2] your detailed info on recommended chains for my vehicle states they are on road use only. * Im intending for forest roads/ some off road in deeper snow fyi = using GY Duratrac 265/70R 16 3 peak tires. Please advise recommended chain... and if I should stay w/ rear chains only per OEM manual?

Thanks so much for reaching out to us. When it comes to your 265/70-16 tires on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma, it is always good to follow what the vehicle's owner's manual says when it comes to what tires can accommodate tire chains. With that being said, I recommend complying with the recommendation to use tire chains on your rear tires (even with 4-wheel drive).

I went ahead and confirmed with your owner's manual that Toyota does not provide a maximum wheel well clearance dimension in the tire chains section. This clearance measurement is helpful when determining how thick the tire chains can be in order to safely be installed without possibly interfering with components in the wheel well.

Since we do not have the internal clearance information, the best and safest tire chains for your 265/70-16 are either the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern # TH2004705265 or the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link # TH02230K77. The reason why these chains are safer is because of how they install to the tire. The # TH2004705265 includes an interior blue-banded cable on the inside of the tire and the # TH02230K77 does not include an interior tire component. As far as traction and tensioning, both of these chains come with good traction and self-tensioners, but the # TH02230K77 is definitely better for deep snow/forest roads because of the icebreaker studs.

I went ahead and showed you what the interior of your tires will look like with the # TH02230K77 chains installed. Unfortunately, we currently do not have an interior tire sidewall picture of the # TH2004705265, but I did include a review video that shows how to install the chains.
