When choosing weight distribution you will need to go by the total tongue weight. This is calculated by first determining the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow. Then to that you would add the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So for example lets say that your gross trailer weight is 6,500 pounds and nothing is loaded behind the rear axle of the truck. The tongue weight would be 650 to 975 pounds. Going with a system rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds like # C17322 could work unless you are at the low end of the tongue weight.

What I recommend is a system with a wider range, 400 to 800 pounds, to better cover the probable tongue weight of the trailer like the Reese system # RP67509. It includes the shank but does not include a ball or sway control.

For a ball use # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. And for sway control you can use # 83660. However for a trailer weighing over 6,000 pounds I recommend going with 2 of the sway control bars. I have included some links on weight distribution for you.
