Recommended Weight Distribution With Sway Control Hitch For a RV Transporter

Question:

I am setting up a truck to use for RV transport so I need a versatile hitch that will work with multiple travel trailers. If I used a Blue Ox such as the BXW1000 SwayPro would I need a second underslung head to accommodate underslung hitch trailers? What weight rating would you recommend? A 15k would accommodate the largest trailer I can legally pull but would it be n issue if used on a smaller trailer? Any suggestions you have for a good do it all or do most of it setup would be appreciated.

I do have a recommendation so that you will not have to have separate hitches as the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1503 hitch head is specific for underslung only couplers.

I recommend getting the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution # BLU35FR for towing with your 2016 Ram 5500. While this hitch is also specific to underslung couplers you can change out the L-Bracket Plates # BLU42QR to use a standard coupler. This system is rated for trailers with a tongue weight of 1,000-1,300lbs and maximum trailer weight of 13,000lbs. Knowing your truck can accommodate up to 15,000lbs it is most likely you will be towing trailers that are empty so their dry weight will be much lower than the GVWR of the trailer and this kit will enable you to tow enough weight for the bigger travel trailers. The sway control will give you added confidence when making those long hauls on the highway. It helps reduce the side to side sway of the campers that you will experience especially when traveling through states with wide open roads and high winds.

We have the following spring bars that will work with the same hitch head and allow for you to tow all different weight capacities with the same hitch head and sway brackets. You can choose the correct bars for the amount of tongue weight for the specific trailer that you will be hauling.

200-600lb # BLU82FR
601-800lbs # BLU25FR
801-1,000lbs # BLU52FR
