Removing Caster of Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack # BD162300
Question:
Can the wheel be detached? I may sometimes want to detach the wheel for more road clearance. Is there an alternate footplate that will fit this jack. At different times I may want to use a wheel or use a footplate. This jack interests me because its retracted length below the mounting bracket is considerably shorter than most A frame jacks - for better road clearance.

According to Bulldog, the caster wheel of the # BD162300 could theoretically be removed, but it is not recommended. If the bolt holding the caster is removed, and the caster is slid off the tube of the jack, there are washers and ball bearings that will fall out of the bottom of the jack that will be very difficult to replace.
This jack was not designed to have the caster removed and replaced with a foot plate.
The Pro Series # PS1401000303 might be a good option. From the mounting bracket to the bottom of the jack pipe measures 5-1/2 inches. A caster, part # PS1400750340 and foot plate # PS1400700340 is available separately.
You could also go with a swivel jack that would mount to the side of your trailer frame. Once the jack is swiveled upward, you would have lots of ground clearance.
I have linked you to our selection of swivel jacks. Some are bolt on applications, and the others would need to be welded in place.
