Trailer axles typically have a sticker or tag on the axle with information like the manufacturer, part number or weight capacity. These tend to fade over time. Even if you find this, it is likely you will still need additional information in order to find the correct replacement bearings.

There are a few ways to determine the correct bearings for your trailer. One is to look at the existing bearings and find the part number on them. These can also fade over time. If that has happened, you will need to take some measurements. I recommend using a digital caliper like the # PTW80157. You will need to measure where the bearings ride in order to determine the inner diameter which will allow you to find the correct bearings. I have attached a picture showing where to measure as well as where the part numbers are typically found.

If you cannot find any information listed on your axle and would like to know the capacity, you could measure the diameter of your axle. I am listing the typical axle diameter based on axle capacity below.

Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter
