What is the Best Bike Rack to Carry 4 Bikes on a 1999 Chevy Suburban with Barn Doors

What kind of bike rack would be best for a 1999 Chevy Suburban with barn doors in the back? We would like to be able to carry 4 bikes.

Expert Reply:
To carry 4 bikes on your 1999 Chevy Suburban that has barn doors, I have two recommendations that will allow you access to your cargo area while the bikes are loaded.
The first rack I recommend is the Thule Apex # TH9027XT which actually swings away from your vehicle. This rack has a 150 lb weight limit. I have attached a short demonstration video.
The second one is the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks - 2" Hitches # y02483 which will let you choose the bike rack you want to use with it.
With either of these options, if you ware going to be towing either womens or alternative frame bikes, you might check out the Thule Adapter Bar # TH982XT which gives the bikes a level ride and better ground clearance. I have attached a short demonstration video.
In order to carry either of these bike racks you will need a hitch on your vehicle. If you do not already have one, I recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch # 41511. This hitch has a 2 inch receiver, is easy to install and requires no welding. I have attached a short installation video on a 1993 Chevy Suburban.
