To determine if your specific 2006 Saturn Ion can be flat towed behind a motor home, the first thing you are going to want to do is check the owners manual. It will tell you if the vehicle can be flat towed and if there are any specific procedures or equipment that you will need.
The base plates I recommend for your Saturn are # DM9518151. There aren't any parts to remove and store when you're not towing. For a compatible tow bar use the Commander II # DM9511012. The safety cables are included as well.
For a lighting solution on the Saturn I recommend using kit # RM-154 which is a great solution if you will be towing the Saturn Often. For infrequent towing I recommend a magnetic kit like # RM-2120.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest systems to set up and use are proportional systems like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. It applies the Saturn's brakes in proportion to how much the motor home is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have also included some helpful links on flat towing for you.
