Recommending A Brake Controller For Towing A Camper With My 2022 Subaru Outback

Question:

Brake controller for 2022 Subaru Outback. I am a novice at towing and would like your recommendation. My camper weighs 1200 pounds and has a GVWR of 2100 pounds.I want something that is simple and do not care if it is installed under the dash. A Subaru factory hitch is what I have installed on the car. Thank you in advance for your help. I have learned a lot from your website.

We can get you setup for your adventure. I think a proportional trailer brake controller is the way to go. My brake controller recommendation is the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller, part # RED24FR, and the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers, part # RED69FR. This brake controller has an accelerometer, so it does not matter how it is positioned inside your vehicle when mounted. It works with trailers that have up to two axles. It has a control knob that allows you to very easily make brake adjustments. It comes with a custom wiring harness for your 2022 Subaru Outback.

If you already have a 4-way connector, you will need a Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, part # ETBC7, to complete the installation. Your camper will have a 7-way connector, but your Subaru Outback has a 4-way connector. This kit allows you to change your 4-way connector into a 7-way connector.

If you do not have a 4-way connector you would need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # 118467, to install a 4-way connector on your Subaru Outback. Then you would add the previously mentioned Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller.

I have attached product description links, a demo video, and three installation videos below to aid in that process.
