Can the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Be Used in a 2023 Subaru Outback wagon

Question:

Hi there! Im interested in the Redarc Trailer Brake controller for my 2023 Outback. Your site says this fits my vehicle, but I had a question about how to tap the brake controller into the brake line so it will give the controller the braking signal. I took my vehicle to a hitch installer to have it checked out and they said it cant be done. Do your experts have a solution? Thanks!

You can absolutely use the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR in your 2023 Subaru Outback. But you will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR for installation.

There may be a few more parts needed, but that will depend on what is already present on your Outback. In order to use a brake controller, you have to have a 7-way installed. This can be done using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. The # ETBC7 adapts a 4-way into the 7-way that is needed for the brake controller. If you already have a 4-way, then you are good to go with the # ETBC7.

If you do not already have a 4-way, you will need to install one to use the # ETBC7. This can be done by picking up the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467. I also recommend getting the No-Drill Mount Bracket # 18136 to make the installation of the 7-way easier and it doesn't require you to screw into your hitch.

There is no plug-n-play installation option for your 2023 Outback, which means you have to use the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR I mentioned earlier. This does involve finding the cold side of the brake pedal. This can be done using the Circuit Tester # PTW2993. You have to access the wires by your brake pedal and then use the circuit tester to find the wire that only has power when the brake is pressed, that is the cold side wire that you need.
