Will Installation of 7-Way and Trailer Brake Controller Void Warranty On 2022 Subaru Outback

Question:

Hi. We have a 2022 Outback Limited xt. We are purchasing a trailer that weighs 1900lbs and has brakes. Our outback has the 4pin. We were going to use the autowbrake module, and I wanted to install your ETBC7L 7 pin harness. My subaru dealer I think is on crack. They said if I install a brake controller in my car, it will void my warranty. even though it can tow up to 3500lbs. My question is, will adding the power wire necessary in your harness, to power the 7pin, void any warranties that you are aware of? And is there any reason I should not use that harness, and or brake controller on that subaru? Thank you for your time!

Installation of a brake controller on your 2022 Subaru Outback Limited XT will not void the warranty. Hopefully the dealer isn't on crack, but even if they are you're protected under the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. Basically, if something breaks on your vehicle under warranty they have to honor it unless the modification you installed was the cause.

The Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller # 3430001 doesn't even install on the vehicle itself, so that isn't something to be concerned about. The installation of the # ETBC7L won't cause any damage. It is perfectly ok to install this 7-way on your Outback. If you chose the Autowbrake because you were worried about the warranty you can go with a different brake controller if you would like.

Personally, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. The main unit installs behind the dash so only the knob is visible, giving it a clean look that won't take up space in your vehicle. This would also mean you can tow a different trailer with brakes if need be. If you decide to install this brake controller you will need the # ETBC7 which has the brake output wire instead of the # ETBC7L.

I have attached some installation videos below for your reference.
