Can the JIF Marine Floating Dock Lift Ladder Be Used on a Boat

Question:

Like the functionality of this ladder. I am considering it for my high freeboard sailboat. Questions are: 1 There are two wire cables attached to the ladder, I assume these are just for safety if the ladder is ped? Are they unclippable? 2 Along with question #1, I would need to be able to pull out the lower section of the ladder and store horizontal on hangers adjacent to the mounted part of the ladder, can the ladder be removed and replaced easily from the fixed part? 3 Is the 4 inch plate that is used to mount the ladder an absolute necessary length? I would need to shorten the plate to 2 1/2 inches with solid mounting on each plate to the boat. I would also add at the bottom of the fixed portion a mount to the side of the boat. 4Are all parts of the ladder aluminum? Rivets, screws etc? Great job on the design, hope I can get to work for my application.

You may be able to make the Jif Marine Floating Dock Lift Ladder - 5 Steps - 750 lbs - Aluminum - 4" Deep Step # JIF49FR work for your application but I cannot advise trimming the mounting brackets as those are designed to help counteract the weight put on the ladder; additionally cutting the brackets would void any warranty on the ladder as well.

When it comes to the cables, those are designed to attach to the brackets and cannot be easily detached, but you might be able to devise an alternate solution for this. This particular ladder is designed to be stored on itself and the cables will keep it attached to the ladder when you bring it up for storage so you may be able to store it in this manner rather than taking it apart; if you wanted to take it apart you'd need to devise a way to remove it while still leaving the cables there to ensure the ladder doesn't get lost over the side. All of the parts on the # JIF49FR are aluminum including the rivet; it does not come with mounting hardware included though. The available mounting hardware # JIF66VR is stainless steel.

It may not function in the manner you're hoping, but as long as you can get the brackets to fit in the space you've got I believe this would work for your application.
