Installation Clearance of Timbren Vehicle Suspension Kit # TFR350SDF on 2006 Ford F-350

Question:

I just purchased the sumo springs SSR 102 for my 2006 f 350. I installed them last weekend. My question is should there be space between the bottom of the spring and the suspension block on the truck. The gap is 1.

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Timbren Vehicle Suspension Kit # TFR350SDF for your 2006 Ford F-350when installed correctly will have a gap between the bottom of the springs and the vehicle suspension. This gap is typically 1-inch or less according to my technical contact at Timbren. (Please note that this clearance gap is not unique to this product; similar products from other brands also can have a gap when installed correctly. Please refer to the included article if you wish.)

This small gap is intentional and allows the vehicle to exhibit its normal ride characteristics when not under load. Once cargo is placed in the truck bed (and/or when the F-350 is hitched to a trailer that exerts downward tongue weight) that downward force will engage the springs so that they can enhance the ride quality of the loaded vehicle. Since these polyurethane springs offer progressive resistance, the more weight they support the stiffer they will become.

Please note that these helper springs do not increase the vehicle weight-carrying capacity.
