Options to Carry a Bike Rack While Towing a Vehicle Behind an RV

Question:

I purchased the item noted in the subject line above. My intension was to use the upper receiver for a bike rack and the lower receiver for towing a car Dolly with a long draw bar. However, the longest draw bar with a ball set up on for use towing the Dolly does not seem to be long enough given the 21” width of the bike rack. Can you recommend a solution?

I may have another option available for your, there will not be a draw bar long enough to get the needed clearance. With that being said, you could add a hitch onto your towed vehicle that could then carry a bike rack, but currently we only have the Yakima HoldUp EVO Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02480 that is rated for use on a towed vehicle.

The only other option will be to add a roof rack to the vehicle and then go with roof mounted bike racks as well. For example, if this was being installed on a 2011 Honda Fit, you would use the Rhino Rack set up # RRVA126B-2 (Crossbars), # RRRLKVA (Towers), and # DK154 (Clamps). The Swagman Upright Bike Rack # S64720 could then be attached to the bars and does not require the front wheels to be removed.
