Can 12-Volt Connection for Powered Taillight Converter Be Connected to 12-V Outlet

Instead of running hot wire from could one use the 12volt aux. plug that is factory installed in rear of van?

This is a common question. Theoretically, what you propose could work but it isn't recommended.
Drawing the power directly from the battery helps isolate the vehicle's expensive to repair electrical system from any short circuits that could occur in the trailer wiring, which is why the trailer harness manufacturers recommend installing a direct battery connection.
