Can You Use a Cargo Carrier to Transport 2 Electric Bikes

Question:

I am thinking of using either the 24x64 cargo carrier e83YR or the 24x84 cargo carrier e96ZR to carry two Lectric folding bikes. The ebikes are step throughs so there is no bar at the top as in the typical mens bike. Also, the tires are 3 inches wide. I would be attaching the carrier to a 2017 Lance 2285 travel trailer. The Lectric bikes each weigh between 65-70 lbs with the battery installed. I have a couple of questions: 1 Are the two carriers of similar quality? Am I missing something? 2 I was hoping to leave the bikes fully assembled not folded, and am trying to figure out a way to securely strap the ebikes so they will not fall over. The trailer ladder is right in the middle of the trailer, is it ok to strap the bikes to the ladder? Also is there some kind of upright support rod that could be attached to the carrier to help support the bikes? 3 It appears that the trailer ladder will prevent me from folding the carrier to the upright position. Is there any sort of extension that would allow the carrier to extend out from the bumper by 4 inches or so? The ladder only extends a few inches beyond the bumper. Or would it be secure to fold the carrier to almost upright position and the simply strap it to the ladder? Any thought or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

The 24x64 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper # e83YR and the 24x84 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper # e96ZR are both constructed of black powder coated steel which is durable and corrosion resistant. They both also have a simple bolt on installation.

Using the carriers to carry your electric bikes can probably be done but there is no clear cut way to accomplish this. You can use something like The Claw Fork Mount Bike Carrier # S64700, which can be mounted to the carrier to attach your bike too but it would require you to remove your front wheel. As far as folding the rack up and attaching with straps, it would most likely be secure. You may just get some rattling and clanging from the play in the straps. Given the bumper mount style there really isn't a good way to extend the carrier out further.

I would recommend using an electric bike rack.

The cargo carriers you mentioned are both bumper mount styles so I am assuming you do not have a hitch. If that is the case the best thing to do would be to get a frame mounted hitch such as the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13701.

That frame mounted hitch will allow you to use the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # Y36FR. This can handle tires up to 3.25" and can hold the bike on the frame or by the seat post.
