What Are Yakima Shear Blocks Y8810006 and Yakima Shear Block Bases Y8810007 Made Out Of

Question:

What are the bases and blocks made of and can they fit on a flat surface? Im trying to mount round Yakima bars on the steel angle sides of a utility trailer. Also wondered what keeps the base/block in place as well as securing the bar? Im seeing a single bolt coming up from the bottom that perhaps secures the block and acts as a set screw for the bar? Thanks for your help.

The Yakima Shear Block # Y8810006 you mentioned are made out of aluminum, and the Shear Block Bases # Y8810007 are made out of a tough Zytel nylon.

You may be able to modify these to secure your Yakima round bars to the side of your trailer, but these towers were designed to attach to rain gutters like what you would find on some Jeeps. You may be able to modify these components to allow them attach to a flat surface but I do not have any information on what would need to be done.

To attach your Yakima round bars to the side of our utility trailer I recommend using the Yakima Tracks # Y01126, Skyline Towers # Y53TR, Landing Pad # Y00221, and Round bar adapters # Y03536.

You are correct that a single bolt comes up through the base and into the shear block to secure the base and block to the rain gutter tower # Y8810137, and that same bolt secures the crossbar to the shear block.
