No Power To Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller 2001 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
Primus iq issues still persisting, I believe it is a wiring problem. 2001 ram 1500, getting n.c. and nothing else. Ive found two interesting facts though 1 if I plug a test light up to a ground on the steering column and into the blue wire on the plug it Primus comes on and works like it should, but when doing it with a wire I get SHinch for a short. Ive tried with a regular wire and a fused wire. 2 if I unplug the brake controller and put my foot on the brake while plugging it back in the Primus works like it should, until I take my foot off the brake for 2 seconds then it goes to n.c. again until unplugging. Could it be an issue with the white/tan wire I spliced into for the wiring? That wire I believe sends a signal to indicate that the brake is pressed. Any other suggestions?

I've been doing some research and I have come across some information that might be of use to you.
First is the wiring, the way the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 should have been wired is as follows:
Orange is not used.
Blue With White Tracer from factory harness connected to the red wire from the brake controller.
Red wire from factory connects to the black wire on the brake controller.
Dark blue from factory connects with dark blue on brake controller.
White is ground so white connects to white.
If that is correct you need to test your brake light switch when it is depressed and make sure it functions correctly. If that works correctly test the blue wire coming off the controller. If they both work there is more than likely a short farther down the blue wire, if the red wire works and the blue wire does not work, then most likely the controller is bad.
It also is a good idea to check the red wire leads under the hood connected to the fuse box for corrosion or insufficient connections. Make sure they are tightened and are not loose.
Alternatively if you still can, the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3025-P is a direct fit for your Primus IQ.
