Replacement 7K Hub Drum and Brake Assemblies for Lippert 24400 Axle

Question:

Can this replace a Axle Tek BD2-865 drum which is original equipment on our 2016 Highland Ridge 3X Open Range Fifth wheel? Axle is a Lippert 24400 - 7000 lb with a spindle that uses a 2.25 inch ID grease seal. I also see that your assembly comes with a new spindle nut and retainer ring. Can I use the existing castle nut and cotter pin instead since the end of existing spindle does not have a machined flat to accommodate the retainer ring? And finally, will the existing axle and new hub 42866UC3-EZ accommodate your Electric Trailer Brake Kit item AKEBRK-7-SA?

Helpful Expert Reply:

If your current inner bearing is a 25580 with a 1.75 inch ID, the outer bearing is 14125A with a 1.25 inner bearing and the bolt pattern of your current hubs is 8 on 6-1/2, the Dexter Axle 42866UC3-EZ 7K hub you'd looked at would be the correct replacement. The hub uses a GS-2250D grease seal, which has a 2.25 inch ID which matches what you found with your existing hub/drum.

You can indeed reuse the existing castle nut and cotter pin, and the # AKEBRK-7-SA self-adjusting brake assemblies you mentioned would work great for you. I'll link to an article that explains how to initially adjust the brake assemblies as well as to an install video for the hub/drum.
