Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Recommendation and Guide for Adding Them to Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello, I am interested in your opinion about an electric/hydraulic brake setup for a trailer. I have a Magic tilt TALS 2044 boat trailer, tandem axle with leaf springs, 13 inch wheels used with a 20foot boat in salt water application. The boat weights approx 3300lbs with boat, motor and fuel. Currently it has no brakes on the trailer. I would like to get detailed list of components. Can I get away with brakes only on one axle? Which axle should the brakes be located on? I would really appreciate your help.

I attached two links down below the product links. They are guides for adding electric over hydraulic brake setups to a trailer like you mentioned. One covers drum brakes and the other disc.

Putting brakes on one axle of a tandem trailer is a popular setup we see quite a bit. Normally for boat trailers this it would be the rear axle.

We really like the Hydrastar actuators like the part # HBA-10-252-82 for drum brakes that comes with lines and a breakaway or the disc brake version # HBA16-252-82.
