Can the Swagman Current be Used with a Class 1 Hitch Receiver?
Question:
Good afternoon I bought the swagman current because of the ebike status and ask vendor if it was good to go on a class 1 hitch and he said yes but after reviewing a few articles Im sure anymore. My ebikes weight 36lbs each without the batteries and the swagman current rack weighs 49lbs for a total of 121lbs can a class 1 hitch take this kind od weight.

When considering to put the Swagman Current # S64678 on a class 1 1-1/4 inch hitch, it truly depends on the maximum tongue weight of your hitch. Usually, class 1 hitches have a maximum tongue weight capacity of around 200 pounds. However, I strongly recommend that you consult the instructional manual of your hitch or provide me with the make/model of hitch that you have to confirm the tongue weight capacity. Also, I confirmed with my contact at Swagman that even if the bike/rack weighed under the maximum tongue weight capacity, the Swagman Current would not be covered under warranty if it gets damaged (since the Current is only listed for 1-1/4" hitches that are class 2).
If you want a bike rack that can hold your electric bike and is rated for class 1 hitches, I recommend the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # SA4025F. The Classic 2 has a per-bike weight capacity of 60 pounds and has a carrier weight of only 35 pounds. As far as clearance of your rear bumper, you will have no issues as long as the measurement from the center of your hitch's pinhole to the outside of your bumper is less than 7-1/4 inches long.
If you need a recommendation of a rack with a longer shank or if you need a hitch receiver recommendation, I would be happy to give you those recommendations if you provide the year/make/model of your vehicle.
