Question:

Hello, My smart jack has been having trouble going up and down. The plastic plate on its crack and I believe moisture is getting in there or has gotten in there. We cover it now. My question to you would what would you recommend for a jack replacement? I was looking at the following model: SC63VR

The Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack part # LC643589 is a good innovative option with memory features but it does have a design flaw in my opinion. The touchpad or controls are on the top of the jack. The reason that this is a problem is because the seals around the controls break down over time and water gets inside ruining the jack. This could be attributed to rough use, bad seals, but the touchpad being directly on the top of the jack means water can come straight in as opposed to the controls being on the face and having a harder time of getting in which is a common design on most other jacks. Unfortunately, we do hear of several others having this same issue with their Smart Jack.

For replacement, the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack part # SC63VR would be an excellent option. You will lose the memory feature but you gain capacity (+1,000 lbs) which can work to extend the life of the jack since it does not have to work as hard to lift the same trailer. Longevity in my mind is the most important feature of a jack since they do fail over time with normal use and no one really wants to shell out a few hundred on one every few years. This is also supported by the two year warranty of the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack compared to the one year warranty of the Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack.
