Can 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Be Recreational Towed On Tow Dolly?

Question:

I tested my Ford Fusion on a tow dolly 2 miles...when I got in it to take it off the dolly a lot of instrument panel fault lights were on, but all did reset as I drove maybe 50 or 100 feet. Really made me concerned, is this normal? Can you use a tow dolly for a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid or should you flat tow?

Expert Reply:

Your 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid can be recreational towed with either all four wheels on the ground, or on a trailer with all four wheels off of the ground but cannot be dolly towed per the owner's manual. To recreational tow your Fusion I recommend flat towing it.

To do this you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, and supplemental braking system. I recommended the following components:

Base plate kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524458-5

Tow bar: Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676 This tow bar includes safety cables.

Tow bar wiring: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

Supplemental braking system: Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR

Lastly you may also need a high-low adapter to level your tow bar to your motorhome so I have included a link to a helpful article on measuring for the correct adapter, and a link to all of our adapters for you to take a look at.

It is always a good idea to check the recreational towing section of your owner's manual for any special steps required to make your vehicle ready to be flat towed, and for any flat towing restrictions.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
