Parts Needed To Add Electric Trailer Brakes To a Utility Trailer With Tandem Lippert 3,500LB Axles

Question:

I have a 2017 Carson dual axle utility trailer that I want to add electric brakes to. Can you recommend an electric brake kit or the parts needed to add the brakes. It also has a 4 pin connector for the tow vehicle. Can I use that connector or do I need to convert to a 7 pin. Thanks.

For your 2017 Carson Utility Trailer I am going to list the all the components that you will need to add electric drum brakes to both your 3,500lb Lippert axles.

4-Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ
2-Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469
1-Tekonsha Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 50-85-313
1-Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 38656
1-Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector # H20046
4-Hex Screw # 101131802
4-Deka Ring Terminal # DW05740-1
4-Deka Butt Connector # DW05745-1

You will also need some 12 Gauge Black Primary Wire # 12-1-1 which is sold by the foot. You will need to determine how much you need to run from where the 7-way junction box will be to all 4 brake assemblies. I have included a picture that will show you how to best route the wiring. I have also linked a help article below that covers adding electric brakes to a trailer that did not have electric brakes.

You will need an electric brake controller. If you let me know what vehicle you have I can make a recommendation for a controller and wiring if it is needed for your vehicle.
