Recommended Hitch For 2021 Heartland North Trail Travel Trailer to Carry Cargo Carrier

Question:

Looking for a receiver hitch I can mount on the rear of a north trail travel trailer. I would prefer to attach it the the frame instead of the thin wall bumper. I then want to add a hitch style cargo carrier.

I have a solution for you, but you will need to measure the distance between the side frame stanchions on your trailer. Assuming that your trailer frame is between 22" and 72" wide, the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703 is likely going to be the best fit since it fits on box frame, I-beam and C channel frames. This hitch can be welded on or bolted directly to the frame and it has a 350-lbs tongue weight capacity, so it's going to be perfect for a cargo carrier.

For the cargo carrier, I recommend using the 17x50 Swagman Expanse Cargo Carrier # S68FR since it's constructed of steel and will be able to handle the rigors of being carried on a travel trailer. This carrier does weigh about 38.4-lbs, so you'll be limited to around 312-lbs of cargo in the basket without going over the tongue weight capacity. I also recommend adding a locking hitch pin like the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span # 63232 to secure the carrier to the trailer receiver.

I've linked some review and installation videos of these parts for you to check out as well. If you find that you've got a bit wider frame than 72", just let me know and I can help you locate another solution.
