Troubleshooting Regulator Vent Leak and Regulator Replacement

Question:

My grill is was working properly. I replaced my propane tank but I can smell propane coming from the regular vent. Should I buy a new one or is there something I can do to fix the problem?

There are a couple things you can try to narrow down your issue and find the correct option to fix it.

First, you can make a mixture of dish soap and water, generously apply the mixture to your regulator. With all flames shut off, open your tanks and look for leaks. The soap/water mixture will bubble.

Since you said that the leak didn't start until you changed your propane tank you may have a propane tank that was overfilled. Which is causing too much pressure and causing the regulator to vent.

If the propane tank is not overfilled then more than likely your regulator has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

I saw that you were looking at 2 stage propane regulators. If that is the style that you are needing you will just want to make sure you pick the appropriate style for venting.
