I have a 2016 Grand Design Reflection with 4400 GWR axles. One of them appears to have a damaged spindle. How far up can I upgrade the axle within the hub and wheel bearing specs currently on the rig

From what I have found looking at the parts from Grand Design, the axle for your trailer measures 86-1/2" from hub face to hub face. I recommend measuring to verify this information.

Unfortunately, we do not have a 4,400 lbs axle. I also would not advise replacing just one axle, you would want to replace both. What I can offer is the # 8327816 5,200 lbs Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles as a replacement.

With this axle you will need different brake assemblies as well as hubs and drums. If you want everything included, we have the # 8327816-EB which includes the electric brake assemblies, hubs, drums, bearings, races, seals, and mounting hardware. If you want to buy brake assemblies and hubs/drums separately, I suggest the # AKEBRK-6 Electric Trailer Brake Kit and the # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly.

In order to make this work, you will also need to move the spring seats to match your trailer using the # TRSS300 Spring Seat for Typical 5,200-lb to 7,200-lb, Round Trailer Axles.

The first thing to consider is if the axle(s) are actually bent. Trailer axles have a bow in them so they are higher at the center than at the ends. When under load the axles straighten out some. That is part of how they get their capacities. If the…
