Can Tekonsha Prodigy P3 90195 Be Installed On 2018 Ford Edge Titanium?

Question:

Hello, Im looking for a trailer brake controller set up for my Edge. Planning on towing a 16-17foot single axle. I looked at your recommendation for the 2018 Edge Titanium and see the only recommended controllers are the Bluetooth Tekonsha and Autowbrake wireless control units. Im curious why a traditional wired unit wont work on the Edge Titanium with tow package? Can you please provide explanation. I was looking at the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 as a choice, but discovered the comments about the ONLY controller that will work with my car is the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless unit. Help please. Thanks in advance for your reply.

A traditional trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 can absolutely be installed in your 2018 Ford Edge Titanium with the Class II Tow package.

From the information we have on your vehicle, no models came with a factory 7-way connector. Since you have the tow package it should have a 4-way connector installed from the factory.

You can convert that to a 7-way connector using the # ETBC7 kit. This will plug in directly to your 4-way connector and just require the following connections:

Black wire to the positive terminal of your battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker.

White wire grounded to the frame of your vehicle.

Blue wire run to where you will be mounting the controller.

With the # ETBC7 installed you can now install the P3 # 90195 by making the following connections:

Black wire to positive terminal of battery with included 20 amp circuit breaker included with the # ETBC7 kit.

White wire to ground point on vehicle.

Blue wire to the blue wire you ran under the dash from the # ETBC7.

Red wire to the cold side wire of the stop light switch that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed. Using the included circuit tester will help you find the correct wire.

Lastly, depending on the design of the trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle you may also need the no drill mounting bracket # 18140 to secure the # ETBC7 to your trailer hitch.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
