How To Determine If Your Base Rails Will Fit A New Hitch

Question:

My local dealer installed a Reese Sidewinder Elite 20K pin box on my Palomino Puma 255RKS trailer, replacing the Lippert 1621 it came with. My existing Husky 16K receiver couldnt stand the pressure of the Husky wedge and buckled on the first tow. Need to replace the whole hitch inside the bed. The rails in the bed of my truck are 22inch apart and the holes 20 1/2inch on center. I understand from your FAQs those will accept the RP 30047. Can you confirm?

Expert Reply:

If your rails are 22" apart on center like in the attached picture then you have industry standard rails and will be able to install your new Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000lbs # RP30047 on them. Any hitch that is listed as fitting on industry standard rails will fit so if you decide to size up down the road you'll still be able to use the same rails.

You'll want to make sure you're using the 5th Airborne Custom Wedge for Select Series Fifth Wheels Item # SWW-03 on your sidewinder to prevent any damage to your new hitch and ensure that it is properly locked in place in the hitch to prevent rotation at the king pin.
