Towing With 2021 Toyota Corolla

Question:

Hello, I recently purchased the Curt towing hitch and wiring harness which your website, and the person I spoke with, said was the correct one for my 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. The experienced and trusted mechanic I paid to install the hitch said it was much more difficult than was shown in the directions, but everything seems fine with it. However, my question is whether its appropriate to even tow a very light kayak trailer made from aluminum or to put a Hollywood two-bike rack on the vehicle. The Corolla owners manual says its not recommended, however I would not go beyond those two described uses and would be careful with my highway speeds and overall driving with the CVT transmission. In real-world perspective, please, will I be okay doing this? I certainly dont want to damage the vehicle or void my warranty. Many thanks for your help!

The owner's manual for your 2021 Corolla does state that it shouldn't be used for towing nor should a hitch be installed.

I can't recommend anything that would contradict what the owner's manual states, but I can't see how installing a hitch like the Curt # C34UR and using it within its stated 200 lb tongue weight capacity for carrying two bikes could harm anything. As far as towing a small lightweight kayak trailer goes, something weighing 500 or so lbs loaded such as the Malone # MPG461GS MicroSport kayak trailer shouldn't cause a problem either.

Ultimately you'll need to decide whether to follow the manual or not.
