How To Charge Towed Vehicle's Battery While Using The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light

Question:

I have a 2021 GMC Canyon 4WD. Ive just purchased these items: Brakebuddy 3 Suppl Braking System - Proportional Custer Wireless Led Tow Bar Light - 7 Way - Magnetic - 23 Auto Battery Disconnect With Switch The Custer LED bar light will take up the 7way connector on my RV, so how do I get power to run the brake system, and to charge my battery? Do I have to splice that in in front of the 7 way connector on my RV? Im hoping you have a more elegant solution. Thanks

The Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39524 wires directly to the battery and comes with a battery charger that runs to the 12v connection port on your vehicle to receive power from your RV. Since you will already be using the 7-way port for your Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light - Weatherproof - Magnetic Base - 23" Long - 7-Way Round Item # LIW-LDTL-7B you won't be able to also charge the battery.

The easiest option is going to be cutting the Hopkins 2-Pole Flat Wiring Extension - 12" Long Item # HM47965 in half in the middle and run the battery charger to the red wire on one of the 2-Pole connectors and running a wire from the RV battery to the red wire on the other 2-Pole connector and capping both white wires. You'll need to use 12AWG wire # 12-1-1 for this and run enough to have these two 2-pole connectors to meet and plug in to each other. I would keep the vehicle side shorter and zip tie it to the grill and have the wire running from the RV longer so that when it's disconnected it won't be as noticeable on your vehicle.
