Question:

I currently have a fifth wheel hitch that you back into the hitch with the jaws closed and it pops open and wraps around the hitch. With the Curt 16A that I am thinking about getting I have seen videos of both closed and open jaws backing in to the hitch. What is the proper procedure? Ram 2500 Reflections 34 foot 5th wheel

The jaws on the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000lbs Item # C16521 will be popped open but not locked when in coupling mode. On the back of the hitch there's a 3 point indicator system that will show you green when you're ready to tow, yellow when you're ready to couple, and red when you're ready to uncouple.

You'll pull the pin clip out and pull back the handle until it locks into the yellow triangle coupling position and then back into the king pin. When it couples it will lock into place and show a green circle and you'll be able to put the pin clip back in the handle.
