Can I Use a Different Per-Bike Weight Capacity Combination on the Kuat Transfer 3 VS the Transfer 2?
Question:
It appears that the 2 bike and 3 bike both claim a capacity of 120 pounds 60 pounds each bike for the 2-bike, 40 pounds each for the 3-bike. Im hoping to carry 2 heavy bikes and one light bike. . . If i have two 50lb bikes and one 20lb, this should hold up just fine in terms of capacity, I assume?

I have an answer for you. The Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU74FR and the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 3 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU24FR both have a maximum per-bike capacity of 40 pounds. Unfortunately, the per-bike weight capacity applies to each individual bike, and two 50-pound bike paired with a 20-pound still go over the weight capacity for two of the bikes on the rack. This can be dangerous when mounting your bike on the Kuat Transfer 3 # KU24FR.
For a great solution, I recommend the Saris MTR 3 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting # SA4032-33. If you mount the two 50-pound bikes in the first two positions closest to your vehicle and mount the 20-pound bike in the position farthest from the vehicle, this rack will work for you. The per-bike weight capacity of the MTR 3 is 60 pounds in the front two positions and 35 pounds in the rear position. The MTR 3 has the same wheel-mount attachment style as the Kuat Transfer 3.
