If your 2005 Ford F-350 has a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then all you will need is a brake controller and the correct wiring harness. For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
It is a proportional controller and can be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel. It is also compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems and regular electric brake systems. It will work on a trailer with up to 4 axles or8 brake assemblies.
For a wiring harness you would use # 3065-P. It plugs into the controller and into the truck. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.
If your truck came with a 4-Way flat connector but not a 7-Way you would need the controller and wiring harness but also # 37185 to add a 7-Way. Or if the truck does not have the brake controller port then you will not need the above wiring harness and instead will need # ETBC7 to hardwire in the controller. I included some links to help with the ETBC7 installation should you need it.
If you just need the 37185 adapter then the white wire on the adapter attaches to the vehicle frame. Purple will go to a reverse light wire if the trailer has reverse lights. Otherwise it can be taped up and stowed out of the way. If you follow the factory 4-Way forwards on the vehicle it will connect into another harness. This forward harness has more wires going in than coming out. Pull back the covering on the forward harness to find a blue wire and attach it to the adpater blue wire. There will also be an orange wire you will need to connect to the black wire on the adapter.
