How to locate the VIN on a 1992 Rockwood Pop Up Camper
Question:
I recently bought a 92 Rockwood camper. I cannot find the VIN for the life of me. I have looked everywhere that I could conceive. Even contacted the manufacturer—except Rockwood was purchased by Forest River in 1998. It was legally plated in IL, but IN won’t plate it. Help me!

There are a couple things you may be able to do to find the VIN. First, if you contact the DMV in Illinois with the old license plate, if you have it of course, they may be able to get you the VIN associated with it. If that doesn't work, you are going to have to try and find it on the trailer.
This can be just about anywhere, but the VIN is normally on a plaque on the trailer tongue near the coupler. If you do not have a plaque on the trailer then the VIN number may be stamped into the metal. If this is the case, it can get painted over making it pretty hard to locate. You will need to scour the frame to see if there is anything that may look like numbers that have been painted over. If you find some, you will need to sand that area down and it should reveal your VIN.
I know this isn't the most helpful answer in the world, but it is the only other way to get it.
