2003 Ford Ranger Hitch Receiver Recommendation

Question:

Hello, Im looking to install a new hitch on my 2003 Ford Ranger, primarily so I can install a bike rack but for possible towing of a small tear- trailer in the future. I see three hitch options for my Ranger on your web page, and I like the look of the DrawTite unit as it hides behind the bumper some. However, I do see reference to clearance issues between the DrawTite unit and a full-size spare such as mine 235/65 R16. Is this correct, as there are many reviews for the DrawTite that do not mention this issue? If there are indeed clearance issues, are they of merely a snugfoot nature or do they completely block the proper storage of the spare tire? If the later, which Curt model do you prefer for my needs, and why?

I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit, part # 75082, for the same reason that you mentioned. The bar of the hitch is hidden behind the bumper. This hitch receiver is a Class III receiver with a maximum tongue weight of 400lbs with a maximum towing capacity of 4000lbs. With regards to fit of the hitch receiver with your spare tire, the fit will be snug but it should install with no issues. Most of the reviews indicate that it is an easier install when you drop the spare tire and then install the hitch receiver. Once that is done you should be able to put your spare back with no issues.

I have included a video review link below.
