Options to Keep the Front of a Food Trailer From Contacting the Rear of a Vehicle
Question:
Hello, I operate an 18foot 7000lb food trailer that I tow with a 2014 Ram 1500. It is a V-nose with the propane tanks on the tongue side. If I turn too sharp my bumper hits the propane tanks. It looks as if the extenders arent rated for what we need. Is there a better option? We use a 2 5/16inch ball as well. Thank you.

We definitely have a couple options available for your situation.
The first will be a longer ball mount. Though this will depend on the rise or drop needed and the length of your current ball mount, the Curt # C45270 will handle up to 7,500 pounds towing with a 750 pound tongue weight. This is also 13 inches long when measured from the center of the pin hole to the center of the ball hole. With the added length of a ball mount like this, I highly suggest adding on the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061. This will keep said ball mount from shifting or moving when installed in the hitch.
This next option will be an odd one and will depend on if you have exposed frame at the front of the trailer, but may still work for you. The Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier for A-Frame Trailers # CC-255. This would require you to remove the existing brackets holding the propane tanks and them move said tanks to the top of the carrier, but may get them high enough so they will not make contact with the vehicle during tight turns. This will lift them up 29 inches and should fit 2 tanks without issue.
