Will Auto Hitch on 2018 Volvo XC60 Prevent Installation of Aftermarket Hitch

Question:

Hi, we are looking at a Volvo XC60 to tow a 2500 pound trailer. They dont make it easy. The factory hitch is down, but only 1 1/4 inch receiver. We cant use it, but it is the only way to get towing software in the car. First question. Will the down hitch that we wont use interfere with the instillation of a hitch? Second question. Do you have a wiring kit that supports the trailer break controller.

My contacts at Curt and Draw-Tite haven't seen a vehicle with the automatic hitch feature (which is what I'm assuming you're speaking of), so I couldn't say with total certainty if its presence would interfere with the installation of a Class III hitch like the Stealth # SH87FR, but from the videos I've seen online, the auto hitch sure looks like it would interfere with the installation of an aftermarket hitch to me.

I'd imagine if the automatic hitch is removable, an aftermarket hitch could be installed but I unfortunately don't have any information about if this is possible. I can link to installation instructions for the hitch, which could be helpful after an examination of how the existing hitch attaches to the vehicle.

To install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller, you'll need to start with a 4 pole trailer connector to access the vehicle's taillight circuits. I'd recommend part # C59236 from Curt. For a brake controller, the easiest installation would be the Curt # C51180 Echo. To convert the 4-pole provided by the # C59236 to a 7-way, you'd need the # ETBC7L trailer connector upgrade kit. The Echo would connect wirelessly to your smart phone, once the Curt Echo app is installed, allowing you to use your phone to control the braking action.

I'll link to some demonstration videos for the trailer connector upgrade kit, and the Curt Echo.
