Does Replacing AL-KO 3500lb Axle 10 x 1-3/4 Brakes with Wider Assemblies Affect Axle Length

Question:

If I upgrade to 10 x 2-1/4 brakes using the drums that use the same size bearings and seals, wont the existing spindle be too short? Also, will my wheels stick out an extra 1/2? This could be problematic. Thank you.

When you replace the narrower AL KO brake assemblies and drums of your 3,500 lb trailer axle with the wider size of 10 by 2-1/4 inch using the assemblies # AKEBRK-35-SA and hub/drums # AKHD-545-35-K the hub face to hub face dimension would not get affected. You wouldn't be adding any width to your axle.

From the pictures you provided, you do indeed have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. This isn't the most common bolt pattern though so if you were thinking about replacing the hubs as well, I do recommend swapping to the much more common 5 on 4 1/2 bolt…
