Which Roof Rack Is Best For Installing Smittybilt Roof Tent On 2016 Honda Pilot?

Question:

Hi I am looking for cross bars for my honda pilot 2016. I bought the Smitty Bilt xl roof top tent that weighs 168 pounds and will probably have about a total of 550 pounds once my family and I are in it. Is there a cross bar system you sell that would work? Thanks let me know.

I checked out the Smittybilt XL roof top tent and it looks like it will fit just about any style of crossbars as long as the weight capacity exceeds the weight of the empty tent. You don't have to figure in the weight of any person because no one will be in the tent while the vehicle is in motion. I saw on various sites that the Smittybilt XL tent weighs about 140lbs. If this is the case then you will be fine since the roof racks for your 2016 Honda Pilot have a 165lb weight capacity and so does your Honda Pilot's roof according to my research.

If your roof has factory rails running front to back then I recommend installing Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars 53" Silver # TH711400 (or Black # TH711420) along with the necessary Feet # TH460R and Fit Kit # THKIT3132.

If your roof is naked with no rails then I recommend installing Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars 54" # RRVA137S-2 (or Black # RRVA137B-2) along with the necessary Feet # RRRLKVA and Fit Kit # DK444.

Both of the roof rack setups mentioned above will be able to hold the roof top tent as long as the tent weighs no more than 165lbs. If it does in fact weigh 168lbs like you mentioned then it likely won't cause an issue, however, it is never recommended to exceed the weight capacity of your roof or roof rack. I attached helpful demonstration videos for you.
