Trailer Hitch and Towing Equipment Recommendation for 2017 Subaru Outback

Question:

So I just ordered etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2inch and a BetterWeigh Mobile Tongue Weight and Payload Scale for OBD II - Bluetooth. Im new to towing and dont know much about it sadly. I know plenty about fixing and installing things on my car but I just want to make sure Im doing and getting everything I need for a reasonable price. I think I would like to have the ability for trailer breaks as well as electricity for running lights on the trailer and such but Im not sure what all Ill need. I also do not know what towing capacities my car has with breaks and without breaks with the hitch Ill be installing. Any information helps to a new kid like me.

The Curt Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # C13206 is a great choice and will work very well as a mounting point for hitch mounted accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers, as well as providing a towing capacity of up to 4000 lbs which would be limited to the 2700 lb towing capacity of the vehicle itself.

To complete your set-up, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # 118467, a ball mount like # AMSC2 and a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

For a brake controller, if you're wanting something that's easy to install, the Curt # C51180 Echo Wireless Brake Controller would be a good option. You'll also need our # ETBC7L install kit. The kit includes everything needed to install the brake controller, including the adapter to convert the 4 pole trailer connector provided by the # 118467 to a 7-way.

I've linked to install videos for the hitch and for the trailer wiring harness, as well as to demonstration videos that explain how the Curt Echo and the install kit work.
