BX3754 2006 Scion XA Tow Bar & Flat Tow Equipment
Question:
Hi E Trailer, Any issues that I should be a concern with in terms of extra wear on my SCION XA? The Scion is a manual trans and I assume other than putting it in neutral that is all that needs to be done? Anything else that I should be concerned with? Are there any promotional incentives that could be applied, sorry this is an expensive item including installation for me and looking for any discounts : Do you offer discounts for RV service centers? My plan was to have my RV shop install the tow bar and if it make sense for them to buy it.

Regarding extra wear to your Scion XA from flat towing, I have not heard any feed back about that concern. You may want to consult with your Scion Dealership Service Advisor. Regarding how to prepare your Scion for flat towing, the best advise will be in your owners manual. It is pretty straight forward.
The parts you will need to flat tow your 2006 Scion XA are as follows.
You will need a base plate kit unique to your vehicle. We offer two, and while the Blue Ox is currently lower priced, you lose that savings to purchase adapters to fit other tow bars. I recommend that you purchase the Roadmaster # 1170-1 base plate kit.
Next you will need a tow bar. I would recommend the etrailer # e44ZR Non-Binding tow bar which will fit your Roadmaster base plate kit. A non-binding tow bar will let you easily disconnect your tow bar even if your coach and towed vehicle is not on level ground or at a difficult angle.
When your coach and towed vehicle are hitched together on level ground, the tow bar should be within 3” of level, otherwise you will need to add a High-Low Adapter. I have attached an article explaining how to measure for an adapter, and a link to a page showing all of our adapters.
Next you will need a tow bar wiring kit. I recommend the Roadmaster RM-152-98146-7 Universal wiring kit which includes everything you need to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car. Includes a 7-way to 6-way straight adapter cord. I would put a little Edelmann # 11755 dielectric grease on those connections. The dielectric grease will keep help keep moisture and corrosion out of your connections
Your Scion weighs in just over 2300 pounds. You will probably want a supplemental braking system installed in it. This will improve braking and handling, and extend the life of your coaches braking system. If your coach has traditional hydraulic brakes then I recommend the Brake Buddy # HM39524 portable system that has proportional braking and has a wireless display for your cab so you can see your braking system status or change profiles from your driver's seat.
If your coach has air brakes, then instead of the Brake Buddy system, you will need the Demco # DM26VR supplemental braking system for air brakes.
I have attached an article below about supplemental braking systems.
