Flat towing 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Question:

Were new to towing behind our Class C motorhome. What items do you recommend for flat towing a 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid? If there are options for each e.g. tow bar please provide that info too. Thanks,

Yes, we can help you put together a complete package to flat-tow your 2020 Ford Fusion. There are multiple choices in tow bars however, it is best practice to match your brands to each other especially in base plates to tow bars and the best base plates for your 2020 Ford Fusion are the Roadmaster. While there are multiple other choices of tow bars available I will link to the one that best fits the base plates for the 2020 Ford Fusion since this is the primary component. .

You will need:

- Base plate kit
- Tow bar
- Flat-tow wiring harness(s)
- Safety cables
- Supplemental braking system
- *Possibly a high-low adapter

Base plate kit, I suggest Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524458-5. The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates are great because they have removable tabs which means your vehicle is going to keep its clean look when you aren't flat towing. Please view the attached link for this being installed on a 2020 Ford Fusion.

For your tow bar, I suggest the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-676. The Nighthawk tow bar is a great option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables so you won't have to purchase them separately and therefore saving you an additional expense. This also has LEDs lining the arms for maximum visibility with a large hookup radius and hassle-free latches make it easy to connect and release. All safety cables included. Also, this is a non-binding design allows you to release your vehicle at any time, anywhere - even on unlevel ground. Its extra-large hookup radius makes connecting a breeze at any angle, even if your vehicle isn't perfectly lined up with your RV. Please see the attached video of this product.

For the needed wiring (some is already present on the tow-bar) I suggest the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 and the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400.

My recommendation for supplemental braking is the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional, # SM99251. This too is a confirmed fit for your 2020 Ford Fusion. It is a proportional braking system that never has to be removed, replaced, or reset. The DUO activates when your RV's brake lights go on and an inertia sensor in the towed car detects deceleration.

You have the option of leaving the tow bar attached to the motorhome while not in tow, if you choose to you may want cover it with the Roadmaster Tow Bar Cover, # RM-055-3.

And finally, you may/may not require the use of a high-low adapter. I have attached a link to a help article "HOW TO CHOOSE A HIGH-LOW ADAPTER" to assist you in making this determination. To flat tow your vehicle behind your RV the tow bar adapter is used to raise or lower the height of the tow bar to the "Safe Zone". The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below level. A tow bar adapter will provide the necessary rise/drop to get into the "Safe Zone". Discover this by measuring from the ground to the center of the base plate kit on your 2020 Ford Fusion and compare that to the measurement from the ground to the top of the inside edge of the hitch on your motorhome. If this distance is not within 3" of one another then you want to use a high-low adapter. Please note the link to a selection of adaptors attached.

Several product review and installation videos of the items discussed here have been linked. I hope they are of value to you and can provide the needed information. Please let us know what other assistance we can provide. Happy Camping.
