Can the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Be Used to Tow a Trailer and Carry Bike On a Bike Rack

Question:

I have a 30ft travel trailer and I believe the total weight is 9800 lbs and I was wondering if i can use this hitch to plug into my trucks reciever and tow my trailer and bikes at the same time.

The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receivers, like the # RM-077-4 that you referenced, are not designed for use with any type of trailer. They are designed for use with tow bars only.

I recommend installing a hitch on the back of your RV. If your RV has a 4 x 4 inch continuous-welded steel bumper, you could use the RV Bumper 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # S64025, along with a bike rack that is designed for use behind an RV. The Swagman Dispatch Bike Rack, item # S44FR, would be a good choice.

If your bumper is not a continuous welded steel bumper, you could consider adding a frame mounted hitch to your RV, like the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22 inch to 72 inch Wide, item # 13703. The bike rack mentioned above will work well with this hitch also.

Another option, if you have a ladder on the back of your RV, you could use the Stromberg Carlson RV and Motorhome, item # LA-102, to carry two bikes.

Finally, if you do not have a ladder on the rear of your RV would be to use a bumper mounted bike carrier, if the bumper on your RV is a 4 to 4-1/2 inch continuous welded steel square bumper. I would recommend the Swagman 4 Bike Carrier RV Mounted Bike Rack, item # S80600, to carry up to four bikes behind the trailer.
