Since the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR you have does not have any lights you are correct that it is not recognizing that a trailer is connected.

What you will need to do is inspect the 7-way connector on your tow vehicle and trailer looking for any corrosion or debris in the connectors that can cause a connection issue.

If the connectors look good double check the wiring on the vehicle and trailer side to verify that no wires have come loose, or have damage causing a connection issue.

I included a video of the # RED44FR for you to take a look at.

Everything looks good, wires are essentially new. No problems with wiring, all the other lights work on my tester except the “brake” and the controller knob doesn’t light up. Is there anything I should be looking at? I installed this unit about a year ago but have never used it, I’m planning a camping trip and thought I should check it and of course now it doesn’t light up. -Nate

@Nate Can you tell me which tester you're using? Is there a friend or neighbor who has a trailer with brakes you can test the controller with? Have you tried using the manual brake button? The controller won's show a connection unless there is a proper voltage draw on the trailer connector, and it won't output voltage unless the vehicle is in motion or the manual brake button is pressed...
