Can Flat Bed Trailer Built On Mobilehome Frame Be Towed Without Trailer Brakes?

Question:

I bought a flat bed that is essentially a mobile home frame. The brakes are shot. I would like to know if I can remove the brake assembly? I have mobile trailer brakes.

You can possibly replace your current hub and drum assemblies with an idler hub to remove the trailer brakes, but keep in mind that if the trailer when loaded is over 3000lbs it requires trailer brakes in most states so I recommend checking your local laws to make sure removing your brakes is legal.

To find the correct replacement hubs you will need to know the bearing combination your axle uses. To do this you will need to remove one of your hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

If you can let me know your bearing numbers or spindle measurements I would be happy to go over the replacement options.
